I attended the Federal Bar Association Annual Conference in Tampa this week. I ran into several of my old colleagues from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, a few federal judges and defense counsel friends of mine. The highlight of the conference was a presentation by former U.S. Customs Special Agent Robert Mazur. Mazur went undercover and laundered the Medellin Drug Cartel’s proceeds through the Bank of Credit and Commerce International in the late 1980’s. It was arguably one of the most significant money laundering cases ever prosecuted. The movie “The Infiltrator” with actor Bryan Cranston playing Mazur is based on the case. I was a U.S. Customs Special Agent in California during this time and it was an honor to finally meet Mazur yesterday.
